Getting around

How to get to Park Güell

Gaudí’s park sits on a hillside above Gràcia, and the last stretch is uphill whichever way you come. The metro stations are a 20-minute walk away, the buses leave you closer, and the entrance you choose decides how steep the walk is.

Public transport is not included in the park ticket, as the official page points out. Buy your timed entry ticket on the park’s own website before you go, and plan to arrive a little before your slot.

By metro: Lesseps or Vallcarca

Both stations are on L3, the green line, which also stops at Plaça de Catalunya, Passeig de Gràcia and Diagonal. According to Park Güell, both are about a 20-minute walk from the park. From Lesseps, the park recommends the entrance on Avinguda del Santuari de Sant Josep de la Muntanya, which has an escalator for part of the climb.

From Vallcarca, the route uses the escalator on Baixada de la Glòria and then leads to the same entrance. Escalators on the hillside streets are sometimes out of service, so check the official page on the day; if they are not running, Lesseps is the gentler choice. For tickets, see our guide to metro and bus tickets.

By bus: the shortest walk

Buses H6 and D40 stop on Travessera de Dalt, about 10 minutes on foot from the park according to the official page. From there you can use the entrance on Avinguda del Santuari de Sant Josep de la Muntanya, with escalators, or the one on Carrer Larrard. For most visitors with children or limited mobility, the bus is the easiest public option.

The hop-on hop-off tourist buses also have a “Park Güell” stop on Avinguda de la Mare de Déu de Montserrat, about 10 minutes from the park, with the Carretera del Carmel entrance recommended from there.

By taxi, car or coach

The park has one taxi rank, on Carretera del Carmel, which is also where you can find a taxi when you leave. If you drive, the park suggests the BSM Travessera de Dalt – Park Güell car park. Group coaches reach the parking platform via Carretera del Carmel, and coach parking must be booked in advance through the city’s Zona Bus system.

With a driver: when it makes sense

A car with a driver drops you close to an entrance and can wait while you visit, which avoids the uphill walk from the metro and the search for a taxi on the way out. QuickPickups, which publishes this guide, sells this service; its booking box is marked on this page. It suits families, older travellers and groups, and it pairs naturally with the Sagrada Família, about 9 minutes away by road without traffic: our Gaudí route by car combines both with Passeig de Gràcia, and you can plan your own stops with a driver by the hour. The driver is not an official guide, and park tickets are not included.

Tips for the visit

  • Book the entry ticket for a time slot and arrive with a little margin: the walk up takes longer than it looks on the map.
  • Wear comfortable shoes; paths inside the park are steep and partly unpaved.
  • In summer, go early or late in the day: there is little shade on the climb from the metro.
  • Coming from the airport? See Barcelona airport to the city centre, and for the basilica, airport to the Sagrada Família.
