Getting around

Barcelona Nord bus station: a practical guide

Estació del Nord is Barcelona’s main coach station: long-distance and international coaches, many regional lines and the coach from Girona-Costa Brava airport arrive here. It sits next to Arc de Triomf and the Ciutadella park, a short ride from most hotels.

Where it is and how to get there

  • Metro: Arc de Triomf (L1, red line), a few minutes’ walk. L1 runs to Plaça de Catalunya, Plaça d’Espanya and, with a change, the rest of the network.
  • Train: Rodalies at Arc de Triomf, on the R1 among others, with direct trains to Sants and Plaça de Catalunya.
  • On foot: the Ciutadella park and the Born are next door; Plaça de Catalunya is a longer walk.

Lines and stations: TMB map.

Who arrives at Nord

According to Aena, the coach from Girona-Costa Brava airport ends at Estació del Nord, and departures from the airport are timed for about 20 to 25 minutes after each flight lands. See Girona airport to Barcelona.

Long-distance coaches from other Spanish cities and from abroad, and regional coaches from Catalonia, also use the station. Your ticket shows the platform area and the operator; check the operator’s website for changes.

The last leg with luggage

Arriving late at night with suitcases, the last leg to the hotel is often the hardest part of the trip: the metro closes at night except on Saturdays, according to TMB. For a family or a group, a car booked in advance avoids the queue.

QuickPickups, which publishes this guide, sells private transfers at a fixed price agreed when you book, including from Girona-Costa Brava airport to Barcelona; its booking box is marked on this page.
