Where Girona airport is
Girona-Costa Brava airport (GRO) is south of the city of Girona, around 100 km by road from central Barcelona. It is a different airport from Barcelona-El Prat (BCN): check your booking, because the distance changes how you plan your arrival, especially in the evening.
The options at a glance
| Option | Route | Barcelona stop | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct coach | Airport to Barcelona | Estació del Nord, next to Arc de Triomf | Leaves about 20–25 minutes after each arrival, according to Aena |
| Bus + train | Bus to Girona, then train to Barcelona | Barcelona Sants or Passeig de Gràcia | High-speed and regional R11 trains from Girona; check both timetables |
| Coach to El Prat | Airport to Barcelona-El Prat T1 and T2 | Barcelona airport | For onward flights; times on the operator’s site |
| Private transfer (booked) | Door to door | Your address | Fixed price; driver tracks your flight |
The direct coach to Barcelona
According to Aena, a coach line links the airport with Barcelona’s Estació del Nord bus station, next to Arc de Triomf, and departures are timed for about 20 to 25 minutes after each flight lands. It is the simplest public option for most arrivals. Timetables and prices are on the operator’s website, linked from the Aena page.
Estació del Nord is next to Arc de Triomf, which has metro (L1) and Rodalies stations for the rest of the journey. With heavy luggage or a late arrival, remember the last leg from the bus station to your hotel.
Bus and train via Girona
The other public route is a bus from the airport to Girona and then a train. Girona station has high-speed trains to Barcelona, listed by Renfe, and the slower regional R11, which stops at Passeig de Gràcia and Sants. It can make sense if you want to see Girona first; see our Girona guide. Otherwise, the direct coach saves a change.
By road and with a pre-booked transfer
By road the journey is around 100 km, mostly on the motorway. A pre-booked transfer avoids the coach timetable and the last leg across Barcelona: the driver tracks your flight and waits in arrivals, and the price is fixed when you book. QuickPickups, which publishes this guide, sells this service; its booking box is marked on this page. If you are heading to the coast instead of the city, Costa Brava Private Transfers is QuickPickups’ own site for the Costa Brava.

Booking a private transfer: the usual questions
- Is the price really fixed?
- Yes. You see the full price for the vehicle before you pay, and it does not change with traffic, the route or the time of day.

- Your flight number is tracked in real time and the pick-up time is adjusted. At the airport you get 60 minutes of free waiting after landing; at the cruise port, 30 minutes.
- How will I find the driver?
- At the airport the driver meets you in the arrivals hall with a name sign. Your confirmation email has the contact details.
- Can I get child seats?

- Can I get an invoice?
- Yes. QUICKPICKUPS S.L. can issue an invoice for your booking, including one made out to your company.
- What if my plans change?
- Cancellations made more than 24 hours in advance are free. You can manage the booking from your confirmation email or by writing to info@quickpickups.es.
