Getting around

How to get to Barceloneta beach

Barceloneta is the old fishermen’s quarter between the port and the sea, and its beach is the one most visitors head for first. It is close to the old town, so the main choice is between the metro and a pleasant walk.

Walking there

From the bottom of La Rambla, the walk along Port Vell and the Passeig de Joan de Borbó to the beach is flat and easy. From the Born and the Gothic Quarter you cross Via Laietana and reach the quarter in a few minutes more. It is often the nicest way to arrive.

Inside Barceloneta the streets are narrow and residential. A car can leave you on the wider roads at the edge of the quarter, close to the beach.

Tips for the day

  • Keep valuables to a minimum and never leave bags unattended on the sand: busy beaches attract pickpockets.
  • Do not bring suitcases to the beach. On a last day, see luggage on your last day.
  • The quieter beaches continue north-east along the seafront, towards the Olympic Port and beyond.
  • Going on to an evening concert at the seafront? See Parc del Fòrum.

From the airport to a seafront hotel

Many hotels and apartments are close to the beach. QuickPickups, which publishes this guide, sells private transfers from the airport to your address at a fixed price agreed when you book; its booking box is marked on this page. For the public transport options, see airport to the city centre.
